A man from Taraclia district was sentenced to six years behind bars for raping his minor stepdaughter. He was also obliged to pay 50,000 lei damages to the victim. The man was taken in custody in the courtroom. IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, it happened in the course of 2015, when the man repeatedly sexually abused his stepdaughter aged 15. Every time, the victim was threatened she would be killed if she told someone about the rape. The truth came out at the start of 2016, when the girl left home and found refuge at a relative. The mother, who knew nothing about the girl’s experiences, went to the police and announced that her daughter went missing. The police soon found the girl, who related why she fled.
The 39-year-old man was married to the victim’s mother and they had two minor children together.
The prosecution considers the sentence is too mild and intends to challenge it and to insist on the punishment of 25 years in jail.
