Man gets three years for raping hitchhiker

An Anenii Noi man was sentenced to 3 years for raping a female student, the Prosecutor General's Office said in a press release. In June, the man picked up the victim as she was soliciting a ride to Chisinau. On the way to the capital, the man turned from the road and raped the woman. The convicted man, 54, is married and has two children. Besides the jail term, the man was ordered to pay 200,000 lei in damages to the victim. The sentence is appealable.
