A 78-year-old man died in a house fire in Lunga, Floresti. According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, the fire was caused by a short circuit in the electric blanket on which the man slept.
Local police officer Eduard Leanca has told Info-Prim Neo that the firefighters were called by the man’s daughter who came to visit him. The woman saw smoke coming out of the house and opened the door. Therefore, the smoldering fire extended quickly.
It is not yet known if the man died from carbon monoxide poisoning or as a result of the burns. The body was partially carbonized.
The man lived alone as his wife passed away several years ago. Last autumn, one of his sons died, while the rest of his children lived in the neighboring villages.
Yesterday evening, a woman aged 85 was killed in a house fire in Puhoi, Ialoveni. The almost 300 fires that occurred so far this year resulted in 35 deaths. Two of the victims were children.
