A man aged 47 from Leuseni village of Hancesti district died from carbon monoxide poisoning in a fire in his house. The fire was extinguished by neighbors, without the involvement of firefighters, IPN reports.

According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, the fire was allegedly caused by a burning cigarette. The flames engulfed the bed where the man was sleeping.

Another fire broke out in a house in Corjeuti village of Briceni district. The things inside two rooms of an annex were destroyed, while the owners suffered second-degree burns on the face, but refused hospitalization. The circumstances and cause of fire are yet to be established.

The Civil Protection and Emergencies Service warns against smoking inside homes as smoldering cigarettes cause fires with fatal consequences, and to respect the anti-fire rules when using electrical heating devices and sources of fire.

In emergencies, one should call the 901 Service.
