The 24-year-old man who attacked the column of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Chisinau in August 2012 was sentenced to seven years in jail. The judgment was passed by the Rascani District Court. Overall, the man will serve 13 years in jail. He was earlier convicted of thefts and robberies committed in 2009, IPN reports.
During the visit paid by the German official to Chisinau, the young man threw a plastic bottle with an inflammable substance towards the official column. He explained that he wanted to set himself on fire in protest against the criminal cases started against him groundlessly.
