The man who threatened yesterday to detonate a suicide belt outside the General Prosecutor's Office (PGO) claimed he acted under the pressure of heated family circumstances, the PGO said in a press release, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
Eduard Popa, 29, had troubles getting along with his wife, with whom he fought for custody of their child. The wife had previously pressed charges against the man for alleged beatings. An argument between the Popas yesterday, which resulted in another police report incrinimating the man, further tensed the situation.
Another motive, according to Popa, was that he had been prosecuted undeservedly and maltreated by the police in 2005.
The PGO says that until yesterday the man has never submitted any request to challenge the results of the prosecution procedures or to complain about maltreatment at the hands of the police.
On Monday morning, July 26, Eduard Popa threatened to explode a belt wrapped around his waist outside th PGO building. Following negotiations handled by the Prosecutor General and the Interior Minister, Popa surrendered himself and the belt, which proved to be a fake stuffed with soap bars intended to imitate dynamite.
