Head of Parliament Marian Lupu made an order to constitute a commission for selecting the candidate for the post of prosecutor general of Moldova for 2013-2018, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the legislative body. The post fell vacant after the resignation of Valeriu Zubco. The communiqué says that the Speaker’s order is aimed at ensuring transparency, professionalism and impartiality in the process of selecting the candidate for prosecutor general and at making sure that the recommendations of the Venice Commission are respected. Within seven days of the issuing of the order, the Supreme Council of Prosecutors and the National Integrity Commission will delegate persons to work on the commission. The commission’s chairman and deputy chairman are elected in the first working meeting from among the members, by a majority of votes of commission members. Representatives of the diplomatic corps and the European Union High Level Policy Advice Mission, which is working under the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Justice, will be invited to act as observers. Within five days of the constitution, the commission will work out and approve the regulations concerning the organization and holding of the contest for selecting the candidate for the post of prosecutor general. It will choose the candidate by March 30, 2013. The Head of Parliament will present the candidate to Parliament, which is to confirm him/her in post. Valeriu Zubco tendered his resignation after the tragic December 23 hunting incident in the Domneasca Forest.
