Marian Lupu: We are ready to examine any candidate for head of state

Acting President Marian Lupu, the leader of the Democratic Party, after the October 20 sitting of Parliament, said they are ready to examine any candidate for the presidency, either representing the parties of the ruling alliance or the opposition or even an apolitical person, Info-Prim Neo reports. Marian Lupu said the Democratic Party wants the head of state to be elected and he personally does not stick to the post of President. He also said that they do not want early elections and if some of the parliamentary parties want this they should say it openly. The leader of the Liberal-Democratic group Valeriu Strelet said they will vote for the candidate who will enjoy political support. He stressed the Liberal-Democratic Party does not accept early elections even hypothetically. The Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu said that Marian Lupu remains the ruling alliance’s candidate for the presidency. He stressed that this post belongs to the Democratic Party and thus it should put forward the candidate for head of state. The Communist leader Vladimir Voronin reiterated the idea of forming a wide coalition that would choose the candidate for the presidency.
