The police detained a woman from Ocnita on suspicion she produced and sold narcotic substances in extremely large quantities, Info-Prim Neo has leant from the website of the Ministry of the Interior.
The police watched the woman aged 59 during over two weeks. While searching her house in Rediu-Mare village in Ocnita district, they found and seized about 120 kg (3,000 glasses) of crumbled marijuana. According to experts of the Ministry, this quantity of drugs on the black market costs about 1.5 million lei.
The police determined that the woman grew hemp in her garden and then crumbled it. She usually sold the merchandise wholesale to intermediaries, who traded in different settlements of the country, including the capital city.
Legal action was taken against the woman. If found guilty, she would serve four to six years behind bars.
The police also detained two intoxicated Chisinau taxi drivers. One of the men drove a Dacia-Logan car, while the other was a passenger in the same car. The police stopped the car on the Basarabeasca-Chisinau route. The narcologist established that the two were under the influence of drugs.
In the car, the police officers found 700 grams of marijuana worth about 11,000 lei and 2,000 grams of poppy straws that could be used to extract 500 ml of acetylated opium that costs approximately 50,000 lei. The drugs were valued at about 61,000 lei. The investigations revealed that the drugs were transported from the south of Moldova and were to be sold.
The suspects are liable to up to six years in jail.
This year the police reported 752 drug-related offences, including 151 in May.
