The May rankings of the most influential politicians of Moldova contain surprises. The top ten politicians include former Communist MP Mark Tkachuk. Anatol Taranu, director of the Institute for Political Analysis and Consultancy “Politicon”, which compiles the rankings, in a news conference at IPN said the position of Mark Tkachuk is due to the relevance of his defection of the Communist parliamentary group.

The former Communist MP ranked eighth, scoring by 30 points more than in the previous rankings. According to the analyst, the lawmaker will most probably not be among the top ten politicians the next months because he neglects the correct informing of the public about the political steps he takes.

The rankings are topped by Prime Minister Iurie Leanca. He continues to score the largest number of points owing to the results achieved in the process of Europeanizing Moldova. According to Anatol Taranu, Iurie Leanca’s mission is not only to capitalize these results to improve his political image, but also to transfer the positive image to the party.

The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat takes the second position owing to his participation in internal events and his visits paid to Romania, the U.S. and other countries.

Minister of Foreign Affirms and European Integration Natalia Gherman comes third. Her daily work is naturally associated with Moldova’s success at European level.

Head of Parliament Igor Corman ranks fourth. He is now the most visible Democrat in the public sphere and the best-ranked politician of the Democratic Party (PDM). Therefore, he is the electoral locomotive of the party in the next parliamentary elections.

The leader of the Communist Party (PCRM) Vladimir Voronin climbed to the fifth spot. Anatol Taranu said that Voronin got the most out of the thematic holidays of May in order to improve his political image. He remains one of the most influential politicians in Moldova and the most influential politician in the opposition.

President Nicolae Timofti ranked sixth. He remains steady in the middle of the Top 10 rankings owing to his political approaches.

Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca went up to the seventh place. Regardless of the fluctuations on the Moldovan political arena, the mayor takes a stable position in the rankings.

The leader of the PDM Marian Lupu ranks ninth. His political statements and actions only contributed to strengthening his position in the rankings.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov is the tenth. The previous months, the minster had also been among the ten most influential politicians because he manages the most important sector and simultaneously one of the most difficult sectors of the Moldovan economy.

The rankings of the most influential political parties are headed by the PLDM, followed by the PCRM, which changed positions with the PDM. Anatol Taranu said the PCRM returned to the traditional place because its leader Vladimir Voronin remains the most influential opposition leader. The next positions in the rankings are taken by the Liberal Party, the Liberal Reformist Party, the Party of Socialists, the People’s Movement “Antimafie”, the People’s Party, the National Liberal Party, and the Social Democratic Party.

The May rankings were compiled with the assistance of 27 experts.
