The mayor of Băcioi commune of Chisinau municipality Vitalie Șalari said he is blocked in his work and is prevented from opening a day hospital in the locality and there is a local councilor who acts by order of a Democratic MP behind these moves.

In a news conference at IPN, Vitalie Șalari said all the initiatives proposed by persons from the local public administration are blocked if they do not belong to the Democratic Party. Several councilors of the Party of Socialists or the Democratic Party do it by submitting all kinds of groundless complaints to the National Anticorruption Center. This way, persons involved in different social projects are harassed and criminal cases are even started against them.

The mayor noted the same scenario was applied in the case of the day hospital that was to be built as part of the Băcioi Health Center. Băcioi commune has a population of about 14,000 people and almost one third of these are elderly persons. To facilitate their access to medical services, it was suggested founding a day hospital.

After consulting public health specialists, at the suggestion of the mayor, the Băcioi Communal Council this February allocated 100,000 lei for building the day hospital. Architect of the local mayor’s office Oleg Druță designed the construction plan. At the request of public health specialists to make sure patient’s rooms are not smaller than 12 square meters, the architect made some changes and was, as a result, summoned by anticorruption n officers for questioning.

The mayor said the architect was questioned following an approach made by local Socialist councilor Viorel Gortolomei to the National Anticorruption Center. This very actively cooperates with the head of the local organization of the Democratic Party based in Băcioi with the aim of intimidating him and making him vacate the post of mayor. “The prosecution officer insisted that the architect should make statements against me and say that the mayor instructed him to modify the scheme of the building,” stated Vitalie Șalari, noting the project didn’t even had his signature on it and he didn’t give such instructions.

“I declare that the Democratic Party, specifically its representatives, will not stop at the given acts. We are convinced and possess information that illegal activities to intimidate, by using the police force that is controlled by the Democratic Party, will follow,” stated the mayor of Băcioi.

The architect of Băcioi Oleg Druță told the same news conference that the officers of the National Anticorruption Center tried to make him testify against the mayor when he was being questioned.
