The mayor of Soldanesti town was arrested on suspicion of abuse of power. According to the Ministry of the Interior, the mayor stole a lot of roof slates from the state reserve intended for persons who were affected by natural disasters and then sold these, IPN reports.
The mayor’s father, a number of employees of the local public administration and other persons are suspected of complicity. Officers of the Ministry’s Internal Protection and Anticorruption Service found a part of the stolen roof slates that the suspects didn’t manage to sell.
The officers carried out inspections in the storehouse of the state-run company “Apa-Canal Soldanesti”, where the roof slates were kept initially, and ascertained that a part of these were absent. Afterward, the mayor of Soldanesti was escorted to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office for questioning and was then placed under arrest for 72 hours.
