The mayor of a village of Soroca district was found guilty of abuse of power and falsification of documents. The Soroca Court gave the mayor two years’ probation. The prosecution considers the sentence is too mild and intends to appeal it to a higher court, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, in June 2012 the mayor, who was also the head of the licensing commission of the Racovat mayor’s office, falsified the proceedings concerning the results of a tender contest. He signed instead of another member of the licensing commission, who actually didn’t take part in the tender contest. Thus, a publicly owned plot of 2 hectares was sold to his grandchild.
The tender contest was held with serious illegalities, without the necessary package of documents. Afterward, by a court decision of 2014, the tender contest results were annulled.
