The unaffiliated councilors from Stauceni accuse the local public administration of using power for one’s own benefit. They accuse the mayor of Stauceni and a number of politically-affiliated local councilors of illegally selling public plots of land at derisory prices, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on Wednesday, unaffiliated councilor Ion Nastase said the Mayor of Stauceni Vasile Satnic, who is a member of the Communists Party, facilitated the sale of a plot of 10 ares to his daughter at a much lower price than its market value. The damage caused to the local budget was assessed at over 1 million lei. “This plot was to be sold for at least 2 million lei. This is not the only case. Dozens of residents of Stauceni were dispossessed of land and expect that the court will do them justice,” Ion Nastase said. Nastase and another two unaffiliated councilors said that a part of the Stauceni councilors are involved in illegal land sales. The Stauceni Council allowed constructing an apartment building instead of a park, destroying thus a public recreation place and violating the law on the principles of urbanism, the councilors stated. The three councilors described the composition of the Stauceni local administration as a watermelon that is red inside and green outside. Five of the 17 local councilors represent the Liberal Democratic Party, four the Communists Party, one the Moldova Noastra Alliance, while the rest are unaffiliated. “Nine of the councilmen take all the decisions – the Liberal-Democrat and the Communist ones. The rest have been removed indirectly,” said Ion Nastase. The local councilors requested the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime to investigate these cases of land sale.
