The mayors of Moldova warn that young people do not come to work for the local public authorities. Mayors who took part in the regional parliamentary forum “Dialogue with the citizens” told the MPs attending the event that they want the graduates of faculties of economy or law to take part in employment contests and to work in the local administration as accountants or jurists, IPN reports.
The mayors said they have to employ non-specialists as accountants or to represent themselves the mayor’s office in court as they do not have such specialists among the staff. The low salaries discourage the young people from seeking a job in the local public administration.
Democratic MP Valentina Stratan said the low salaries are a problem that is common to a number of areas. “As long as we do not focus on the development of the economy and restoration of credibility, these things will not remain in the past. We must change the mentality and banally ask for a receipt when we make purchases so that the budget revenues increase and the salaries, pensions and allowances could be raised,” she stated.
Unaffiliated MP Galina Balmos, ex-member of the Party of Communists, said the mayors first of all must decide how they can motivate the young people to remain and work in a village. “The young people want to assert themselves, to build a carrier and not to be lied to. We must create conditions for them to develop professionally,” she noted.
The attending mayors also raised the issue of discrimination of HIV-infected persons and requested to penalize those who violate the right to confidentiality. The women mayors said that domestic violence is still widely spread in rural areas and asked that the authorities should take concrete measures to help the victims and to reduce this phenomenon.
The regional parliamentary forum “Dialogue with the citizens” was staged in Rusestii Noi village of Ialoveni district by the UN Program “Women in Politics” in partnership with the Joint Dialogue Platform of Ladies MP of Moldova’s Parliament and the Parliament’s Secretariat.
