The Civil Society Platform “Pro Europe” insists that the ministers who will form part of the future Government that will be headed by Democrat Pavel Filip should sign an integrity statement. In an appeal signed by members of the Platform, it is said that the signing of the statement is a very important step for offering credibility to the next Government and for ensuring transparency in governance, IPN reports.

“In the context of the recent political developments, when the Moldovan politicians are suspected of acts of corruption, while society’s confidence in the political class is eroded, the Civil Society Platform “Pro Europe” demands that when the future composition of the Government that will be led by the new candidate for premiership Pavel Filip is set, a meeting with civil society should be held, where the candidates for minister could sign the integrity statement,” says the appeal.

“We consider that if these assume responsibility and admit that they do not have integrity-related problems and haven’t been involved in acts or corruption or related acts and haven’t cooperated with the intelligence services of other states and of Moldova, the future Prime Minister and ministers will secure a path to more efficient activity in the interests of the people.”

According to the Platform members, the Republic of Moldova needs an upright political class that will act to satisfy the real needs of the country. “If the future Cabinet meets the integrity criteria, it will give a signal to the whole society that these criteria should be respected by the people too. We are firmly convinced that only this way will we be able to build together a democratic, modern and prosperous state,” reads the appeal.

The appeal was signed by 14 NGOs that are members of the Civil Society Platform “Pro Europe”. Among these are the Foreign Policy Association, the Association of Independent Press, the Women’s Political Club 50/50, East Europe Foundation and Promo-LEX Association.
