Twelve Moldovan students obtained merit scholarships of 12,000 lei at the 15th edition of the National Contest of Merit Scholarships, organized by Soros Moldova. The Government also offered laptops to the students, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“They are the best of the best. They maintain our prestige. They prove we have youth good enough for international standards, who know several languages, are creative and show initiative in the learning process. That’s why they boost the image of our universities”, said the minister of education Mihai Sleahtitchi.
He mentioned that the youth would be invited to participate in debates regarding the university curricula. “Till now, only the teachers participated in making decisions, but it’s time we attract the best youth to advise us, to tell us what to include in the curriculum”, the minister said.
Alexandru Monahov of the National Management Institute “IMI NOVA” was one of the winners and declared himself delighted to represent the institution. “I gathered many things in my file, like published articles or conferences I attended. My academic results were very important as well”, he said. Monahov looks forward to help Moldova become a better country, with first-rate governing bodies.
Iuliana Mamaliga, student at the State University’s Journalism and Communication Sciences Faculty, advised youth to involve in more projects and thus to gain knowledge, skills and experience. “I enjoy working and I really like what I do”, said Iuliana.
The Merit Scholarships Program was launched in 1996 at the initiative of Soros Moldova Foundation in order to encourage academic and scientific activities of Moldovan students.
