The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova says that it hasn’t been notified of the presence of Moldovan citizens among the victims of the devastating floods in Spain so far. Representatives of the Ministry’s Press Office told IPN that the authorities are in permanent contact with the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the Kingdom of Spain.
President Maia Sandu sent a message of condolence in which she says that she was deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life in Spain due to the devastating floods. "Our hearts go out to the families of the victims and to all the affected communities. Moldova stands by Spain in this difficult period," said the head of state.
The international press reported that dozens of people have lost their lives as a result of the flash floods in a number of areas in Spain. The most affected regions are Valencia, Castilla-La Mancha and parts of Andalusia. The people in the three regions were asked to stay indoors and avoid travel. The dramatic conditions are caused by an isolated high depression area that brings heavy rainfall and a drop in temperatures.
