The former President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin, who heads the Party of Communists (PCRM), turned 75. On this occasion, Metropolitan Bishop of Chisinau and all Moldova Vladimir conferred the most emblematic award of the Moldovan Orthodox Church – the Order of Recognition – on Vladimir Voronin, IPN reports.
In a press release, the PCRM says the order is awarded for ‘special civic behavior and sacrificial work done for social welfare and harmony, which guarantee conscious attitude to the most sacred ideals of the people’.
According to the party, the award was conferred in gratitude for the many donations made by Vladimir Voronin to the Moldovan Orthodox Church, including the assistance in decorating the Metropolitan Cathedral, in reconstructing the Curchi Monastery, Capriana Monastery and other religious communities in the country, and for his many philanthropic and social deeds while holding the presidency.
