The Governments of Moldova and Russia will sign in mid-November an agreement of cooperation in the field of migration and provisional employment of migrant workers.
According to Valentina Ungureanu, senior specialist at the Social Protection Ministry, the agreement will provide an opportunity for Moldovan citizens to get legal jobs in Russia and will help to improve the management of migration flows in both directions.
The agreement provides, among other, for training to improve migrant workers' language and professional skills and for government assistance in mediating employment agreements.
“Considering the significant number of Moldovans in Russia, this agreement is an opportunity to offer them assistance and security. This will be beneficial to both our citizens and the migration authorities. Today migrant workers do as they see fit, rather than to inform themselves, obtain legal employment contracts and register with the (Russian) federal migration services so that the government can offer them protection”, said Valentina Ungureanu.
According to the Ministry of Social Protection, there are over 200,000 Moldovan citizens in Russia.
