Mihai Ghimpu: I’m disappointed as I do not agree with CC’s decision

The chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu, one of the authors of the application to the Constitutional Court (CC), said he is disappointed by the decision passed by the Court on September 20, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The decision is definitive and obligatory for Parliament. But I have another opinion. I think the Council of the Alliance will convene, but I don’t know if we are able to discuss something as the reached agreements are no more respected. We filed the application to the Court as a result of an agreement reached during discussions involving the three parties that were held within the Council. The PLDM did not obey our agreement and later announced that they will not vote,” Mihai Ghimpu told the journalists after the CC’s hearing. Asked if the Court’s decision is a step towards early elections, the Liberal leader denied it. He said the decision does not oblige the legislative body to immediately call presidential elections. “Given the political situation and the responsibility of the politicians who are either in power or in the opposition, we can expect anything in Moldova because nobody cares about the people. The Liberal Party is not for early elections and the Alliance was formed not for this purpose. We had and still have solutions. This idea will be sullied as the others due to a number of persons,” said Mihai Ghimpu. “In order to prevent a decision in favor of adopting an organic law, they started to support the Constitution. These are political games,” he added, commenting on the position of his colleagues. The Constitutional Court ruled that the legislative body cannot institute another majority for electing the head of state by organic law when the Parliament is dissolved repeatedly following the non-election of the President.
