The chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu said none of those who ruled in 2011-2014 took attitude to the approaches of the regulatory and inspection bodies concerning the situation at Banca de Economii (BEM). The politician noted that he received no answers from the National Anticorruption Center, the National Bank and other inspecting and regulatory bodies, IPN reports.

The Liberals’ leader told the press that in 2012-2013, the then Prime Minister Vlad Filat received by four notifications from the National Bank and the National Anticorruption Center. The first notification was made on April 5, 2012 by which the ex-Premier was warned that the BEM’s share capital decreased by 471 million lei to 1.275 billion lei. “So, if the then Prime Minister had taken measures in 2012to deal with the bad loans, Banca de Economii would have continued to exist and the stealing wouldn’t have been committed,” stated the politician.

According to Mihai Ghimpu, ex-Premier Iurie Leanca received four notifications from the National Bank and three from the National Anticorruption Center by which he was informed about the companies that took out loans illegally. President Nicolae Timofti was also informed by the two institutions for several times.

“All these data and these documents, and there are probably more such documents, show that the senior administration knew about the bad loans and the transfers of billions of lei from Banca de Economii, Banca Sociala and Unibank abroad, but did nothing,” stated the Liberals’ leader.

Mihai Ghimpu considers nobody reacted because some of them were involved in the theft of the US$1 billion from the very beginning. The assertions that the responsible state institutions didn’t take action are a bluff.
