The Liberal-Democratic faction should have taken part in the January 22 extraordinary sitting of Parliament so as to show that they do not play the game of the Communists, the Liberal Party head Mihai Ghimpu stated. “I have the impression that we are in the same situation as the Alliance for Democracy and Reforms (ADR), when the Sturza Government was removed three days before Moldova’s European course was decided. The ADR fell apart. A first secretary of the Komsomole was named to head the Government and this led to early elections, as a result of which the Communists came to power in 2001. We should draw conclusions. It seems that the settling of accounts is more important than what we assumed,” Mihai Ghimpu said after the extraordinary sitting that was boycotted by the Liberal-Democrats and the Communists. He also said that when it is about causes, people, and objectives, there must be unity in the alliance. “The PLDM should have been in the hall today to show everyone that despite the problems existing inside the alliance, when it is about the people and the country’s future, we are together and do not play games together with the Communists. Unfortunately, it is not so and this is regrettable,” said Mihai Ghimpu. The head of the legal commission for appointments and immunities Victor Popa told the press that the Parliament’s extraordinary sitting was called legally, with no deviations from the legislation. Thus, the Liberal-Democrats’ arguments that the Parliament Regulations were violated are not sound. The January 22 extraordinary sitting of the legislature didn’t take place because the quorum was not present.
