Independent candidate for mayor of Chisinau Mihai Godea, in a news conference on Friday, said that he does not withdraw his candidacy from the electoral race, as it was rumored. Mihai Godea said that after he left the PLDM and became a candidate, the Liberal-Democrat leader Vlad Filat changed his behavior towards the party colleagues. Moreover, things in the AEU started to move on, he stated, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
“The rumors work well when certain goals are pursued. I do not intend to withdraw from the electoral race. The situation did not change much. Only the administration changed, not yet the system. However, we proved that there is support and the people still have confidence in people,” said Mihai Godea.
He also said that his defection from the PLDM set off a reaction. “The Premier finds time to talk to the MPs, the leaders of the local organizations and even the local leaders. Such behavior should be maintained as it will help him save and strengthen the party,” said Godea.
As to the ruing alliance, Mihai Godea said that the reforms stagnated and the leaders were preoccupied more with their image, but after he left the PLDM there were adopted important laws such as the legislative program on the liberalization of the visa regime with the EU.
He stressed that with his registration as an independent candidate, the voters were offered a new option. “Earlier, they could choose between the Liberal mayor Dorin Chirtoaca and his Communist opponent Igor Dodon. I’m an independent politician without party and the voters have an alternative. The people should be ale to go to the polls, not to be forced to vote,” said Godea.
Mihai Godea closes the list of candidates in the ballot for the mayoralty.
