Military Prosecutor’s Office indicts soldier who shot dead colleague

The Cahul Military Prosecutor’s Office charged the soldier who injured mortally a colleague of his from a gun with negligent handling of a firearm, which resulted in the death of a person. At the prosecutors’ request, a warrant for the soldier’s arrest was issued for a period of 30 days. “The soldier admitted his guilt and said he regrets what happened. If the court finds him guilty, he will be imprisoned for two to seven years,” Cahul Military Prosecutor Alexandru Balan has told Info-Prim Neo. The incident happened on the territory of the Cahul-based motorized infantry brigade “Dacia” on Wednesday evening. Corporal Vadim Harin, who was to do two more months of military service, was shot by a colleague of his in the thorax. The young man died shortly in the district hospital. In a communiqué, the Ministry of Defense informed that its College Board decided to dismiss the unit’s commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Andrei Grosu. Disciplinary penalties were also imposed on other officials of the National Army General Staff.
