The police officers will benefit from better social security and this should have an effect on their professionalism, Minister of the Interior Alexandru Jizdan stated in a program on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.
The minister said the financial situation of the police officers is now very bad, reason for which many professionals leave the system. The spending for the social security of the police will be higher this year. Furthermore, in accordance with the new police development strategy, increased attention will be paid to the police officers working in rural areas.
Alexandru Jizdan noted that a poll carried out by the Institute for Public Policy shows that the people have confidence in the professionalism of the police, but consider that these behave rudely. A bilateral agreement was signed to train police employees and increase the number of police officers who will be trained in different countries, including Romania.
According to the minister, a higher sum was allocated from the 2016 budget for the equipment of the police so as not to force the employees to fuel the police cars with own money or to purchase uniforms, for example.
Special attention will be devoted to the situation in rural areas. The number of police officers will be reduced, while the number of sub-officers will be increased. “A lot has been invested until now in the municipality of Chisinau. From now on, in accordance with the police development strategy, we will focus on the village police stations,” stated Alexandru Jizdan.
Speaking about the work done during the first 100 days, the minister said that they drafted the police development strategy and the law on the common status. “I’m satisfied that we created a team that started to achieve results already. A lot of work will be done with this team,” he assured. He also said that the fight against corruption in the system is one of the top priorities.
