The Ministry of Culture initiated discussions with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to finance the project to reconstruct the National Philharmonic, Ion Budeci, state secretary of the Ministry of Culture, stated at a press conference, being quoted by IPN.

“This project, as you realize, is a rather important one, but it also requires large financial resources,” said the secretary of state.

Ion Budeci noted that the subject will be raised again when there are details from the EIB, but the project to reconstruct the Philharmonic can be implemented at Government level. “So, the Government has to take responsibility because it’s a pretty great project,” he added.

The architectural project to reconstruct the National Philharmonic, of the German company Bez+Kock Architekten, with Thorsten Kock as author and Martin Bez as co-author, was designated winner in the international competition of architectural solutions “Revive the Philharmonic”. The announcement in this regard was made by the Ministry of Culture in May 2023.

The National Philharmonic “Sergei Lunkevich” burned down on September 24, 2020. Following the fire, the ceiling of the main hall collapsed and the building fell into ruin. Over 3,500 square meters of the building were destroyed by fire.
