The Ministry of Education and Research presented the concept of the new national curriculum. According to secretary of state Valentina Olaru, the cyclical need of 5-10 years to develop the school curriculum is one of the arguments for launching the curriculum designing process because societal changes occur and the curriculum must be adapted to these changes. The last change in the curriculum took place in 2018, IPN reports.

The changes that will occur at all the schools and for all the school subjects, with the application of the curriculum in force, refer to the development of courses of study for all the existing subjects from the perspective of better connection to the formation of key skills and the European system of values. The applicability of the curricular contents studied will be increased so that the students can use what they learn at school in life. Emphasis will also be placed on student-centered learning and relevance to current and future requirements of society.

The Ministry also proposes alternative framework plans for each cycle: primary, secondary and high school. So far, alternative plans existed only for high school. The goal is to also integrate related school subjects, such as personal development with education for society. For primary school, an optional or compulsory subject would be called “I discover the world”, through which the child discovers through research and makes connections between subjects and the surrounding world.

Between June and August, consultations and public debates on the proposed concept will be held with all the education actors.

The Ministry aims to ensure the implementation of the developed curriculum in the 2027-2028 school year.
