The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development denies the assertions made by the mayor of Balti Alexandr Petkov, who said that the institution decided to start, through the agency of Court of Balti, the procedure by which he would be suspended from office. Asked to comment on these statements, representatives of the Ministry said that the National Technical Supervision Inspectorate drew up a contravention report after the Balti mayor’s office did not issue the requested permit for the construction of bridges in the city by the set time limit. “Other statements made by the mayor of Balti are false and do not correspond to the reality,” the Ministry stated for IPN.
“The State Road Administration submitted the application to receive the construction permit for the design and repair works of the bridges in the city of Balti. Under the current legislation, the building permit is issued by the mayor within 30 working days from the date of registration. For the reason that the Balti mayor’s office did not issue the construction permit, the National Technical Supervision Inspectorate produced a contravention report,” said the Ministry’s press service, noting that “the objective of the State Road Administration is to repair those bridges as quickly as possible in order to avoid any risk to people’s lives and health.” Officials of the Ministry also said that the two bridges in Balti are in a poor condition and pose risks to road traffic.
In a news conference held at the head office of “Our Party”, the mayor of Balti municipality Alexandr Petkov said the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development decided to start, through the Court of Balti, the procedure by which he would be suspended from office as he did not reach an agreement with the authorities and did not authorize the construction of bridges on the Balti city belt. According to Petkov, the central authorities did not take into account the opinion of the residents of Balti when the project was approved.
