A modernized train that will travel on an internal route will be brought to Moldova in May. It is an old Moldovan train that is being reequipped. In a news conference, Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Anatol Salaru said that a Romanian company accepted to reequip Moldovan trains made in Hungary, which are over 40 years old, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The factory that made them no longer exists and spare parts are unavailable. This factory exported about 700 trains to the Soviet Union, but they are now not used as they consume much energy. Moldova cannot afford to buy new trains. A train costs over 4 million lei, said the minister.
The first reequipped train will be conveyed in May, while the next trains – every 30 days. They will be first- and second-class trains. “Our trains will be outfitted with modern engines and gearboxes in Romania,” stated Anatol Salaru.
A train will have 200-220 places. There will be brought 22 railcars.
