The Republic of Moldova and Switzerland could sign a free trade agreement and could also launch a flight between the two states. The subjects were discussed by Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu with President of the National Council of Switzerland Jurg Stahl and President of the Swiss Council of States Ivo Bischofberger during his visit to Bern, IPN reports.
According to the Parliament’s press service, a number of projects in such areas as health, energy, free trade and bank surveillance are to be developed in the immediate future together with the Swiss Confederation. Andrian Candu noted that the experience of Switzerland is very valuable for Moldova in the reformation process.
In the meetings with the high-ranking officials, the Speaker asked for Swiss expertize and consultancy for strengthening the capacities of the Illegal Assets Recovery Agency and for improving the surveillance and control capacities of the central bank. The sides also discussed neutrality and security related issues, especially in the current regional conjuncture in Eastern Europe, and agreed to develop bilateral interparliamentary cooperation at the level of expert commissions and groups of friendship.
Speaker Andrian Candu is paying an official visit to Switzerland during June 6-8, being accompanied by a parliamentary delegation. Last September, the President of the National Council of the Parliament of Switzerland made the first official visit to Moldova at the level of Speakers since the establishment of the Moldovan-Swiss diplomatic relations on September 2, 1992.
