Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov believes that now the Republic of Moldova can play an essential role in strengthening the energy security of the entire region, by contributing to the expansion and facilitation of transport capacities on the Alexandroupolis route. The statements were made during a discussion with his Hungarian counterpart Csaba Lantos. Victor Parlicov is attending the ministerial meeting of the High Level Group on Central and South-Eastern Europe Energy Connectivity (CESEC), which is taking place in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, IPN reports.
"The Republic of Moldova was the first to succeed in demonstrating the viability of the vertical corridor, both from a technical point of view, as Energocom was the first company to transport gas on the entire route, from Alexandroupolis to the underground storage facilities in Ukraine, and also from an economic point of view, by creating conditions for a business model that was previously available only to Gazprom," said Minister Parlicov.
He reiterated that the Republic of Moldova was the first country to demonstrate the viability of the vertical natural gas corridor and, by contributing to the improvement of its transmission capacities, the country will contribute a lot to increasing the energy security of the entire region.
In this connection, the parties stressed the importance of increasing the natural gas transmission capacity on the vertical corridor, but also the need for the EU to allocate funding for the necessary infrastructure and for enhancing the capacities of the gas pipeline, which will allow strengthening regional energy security and also reducing transmission costs and integrating the regional gas market into the European market.
In the context of the efforts made in the field of renewable energy, the minister invited Hungarian companies to participate in tender contests for the construction of large wind and solar farms (105 MW for wind installations and 60 MW for photovoltaics), stressing that the winners of the competitions will receive a guaranteed fixed price for a period of 15 years, for the generated electricity.
Also, regarding the energy efficiency sector, Victor Parlicov stressed that the Republic of Moldova aims to improve energy efficiency in public buildings and industry - areas in which Hungary has made substantial progress.
