Moldova fulfills all the commercial commitments agreed at bilateral level with Russia and within the Commonwealth of Independent States. Thus, the Russian Government’s decision to modify the conditions of importing Moldovan products is groundless and contrary to the agreements between the two states and with the CIS. The subject was discussed in a working meeting centering on the legal and commercial aspects of the Russian Government’s decision to impose import duties on a series of Moldovan products from September 1 and non-tariff restrictions on products of vegetal origin from Moldova, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué of the Government, decision makers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and the heads of the Customs Service and the National Food Safety Agency presented the results of the analysis of Russian authorities’ decisions.
Prime Minister Iurie Leanca requested the competent institutions to intensify the dialogue with the partners from Russia on the given subject by organizing consultations at bilateral level and through the agency of international commercial-economic organizations of which Moldova and Russia form part so as to identify commercially-sound legal solutions to the created situation.
On July 21, Russia banned the import of fresh and canned fruit from Moldova. Afterward, the Russian Government made a decision by which it introduced customs duties on the rest of the Moldovan products that can be imported into Russia. Last September, Russia imposed a ban on the import of Moldovan wine, except for the wine made in Transnistria and Gagauzia.
