Moldova and Germany will cooperate in the protection of the environment. A declaration of intent was signed in Germany by Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru and Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter, IPN reports.
In a press briefing in Chisinau on April 7, Gheorghe Salaru said that Germany is a very important partner of Moldova and the authorities have high hopes of this cooperation. “There are very competent persons at this ministry. We can learn from their experience,” he stated.
The signed declaration of intent will contribute to creating a coherent framework for the strategic environmental protection initiatives. There will be defined the way in which the European environmental policies can contribute to ecological growth in Moldova, improved state of health and sustainable development. The cooperation between the two states envisions the formulation and implementation of legislation and national environmental policies and their adjustment to the EU legislation and international standards.
Another aspect is the exchange of information in using natural resources and promoting CO2 reduction technology on Moldova’s territory, developing green economy, protecting and conserving biodiversity. There will be worked out a system for regulating waste management, including hazardous waste and chemical substances.
Gheorghe Salaru said they will also discuss a new renewable energy project, namely the building of a wastewater treatment station in Straseni town, based on the experience of the Berlin station where the mud collected as a result of the process of purifying wastewater is fermented. Biogas is extracted from this ferment, which is used to generate electricity. By this ecological procedure they also produce fertilizers used in agriculture.
