Moldova joins UN Convention on Privileges and Immunities of Specialized Agencies

The Parliament voted Moldova’s accession to the United Nations Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of Specialized Agencies, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a letter to the Parliament, the Foreign Minister says that by joining the Convention, Moldova commits itself to offering UN specialized agencies the right to conclude contracts, to benefit from tax exemptions, customs privileges and legal immunity. The Convention applies to 14 UN agencies, including the World Labor Organization, UNESCO, World Health Organization, International Monetary Fund and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. These privileges and immunities will facilitate the agencies’ activity in Moldova and will thus improve the quality of the assistance they offer.
