The public association “Moldova Mea” came up with a proposal for authorities to readjust the state budget for 2012 so that the money for State Chancellery members’ sanatorium was allotted for the treatment of children suffering from scoliosis and spinal traumas. The organization's representatives told the press that the state forgot about these children, who need expensive and lengthy treatment, Info-Prim Neo reports. Igor Caldare, a member of the association, said that about 70 children suffering of scoliosis need planned surgeries every year. The average needed sum is 4-5 million lei. At the moment, there are 20 children who need urgent surgery. “Government Secretary Bodiu requested an increase of 0.7 million lei for the budget of the Health and Rehabilitation Association of the State Chancellery. We want this money to be allotted to the purchase of implants for these children”, said Igor Caldare. Dr. habil. Nicolae Savga, head of the Pediatric Vertebrology Clinic, part of the National Scientific-Practical Center of Pediatric Surgery, said that such implants cost 4-5 thousand euros, but the cheapest ones were about €2500. According to him, this year about 30 children needed implants, but only 2 of them afforded to pay. Fiodor Ghelici, head of the “Moldova Mea” association, accused the state of buying €4 million worth limousines and forgetting about children suffering from such diseases. “With that money, 100 children couldn’t been treated. This is genocide against children!”, fumed Ghelici. Another member of the association, Alexandr Iudin, shared his opinion that authorities waste money on holidays, expensive things, cars, and don’t think about children. Currently, there are no allotments from the state budget for implants for people with spine problems.
