The national football squad of Moldova suffered a new defeat in the EURO 2012 qualifiers. On October 7, Gabi Balint’s team were beaten in Rotterdam by the world vice champion, the Netherlands 1-0, Info-Prim Neo reports. The same result was scored in Chisinau last year. The ‘mechanic orange’ dominated the game, while the ‘tricolors’ preferred to defend themselves in their own half of the field. Though the Dutch had numerous occasions for scoring, they managed to score only one goal. Towards the end of the first half, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored his eleventh goal in the current preliminaries. Moldova’s goalkeeper Stanislav Namashko prevented the scoreline from being wider. Moldova may have scored at the end of the match, but Victor Golovatenko shot imprecisely from several meters. It was the fifth defeat in a row and the seventh for Moldova’s squad in the 2012 European Championship qualifiers. They rank fifth in the group with six points scored. With nine victories won in nine games, the Netherlands have qualified for the final tournament in Ukraine and Poland. On October 11, Moldova will play the last match of the qualifiers at home against one of the weakest teams, San Marino.
