Moldova trounced by Ukraine in friendly match

The Republic of Moldova lost the friendly match against Ukraine 0-4. The match was played at the Zimbru Stadium in Chisinau, IPN reports.

Ukraine opened the scoring in the second minute, the goal being scored by Roman Yaremchuk. Another goal was scored in the 43rd minute, by Viktor Tsygankov. The third goal was scored in the 49th minute, by Artem Dovbyk, and the 0-4 scoreline was set by Georgy Sudakov in the 54th minute.

“The result speaks for itself. The Ukrainian team was better, according to all the parameters,” the national team’s coach Sergei Kleshchenko stated after the match.

President Maia Sandu attended the game. “Today we all supported the national football team of Moldova, in the friendly match against Ukraine. I’m glad to see the stands full of fans, children and adults, who came to support the national team. It’s nice to enjoy every game together. And, regardless of the result, let’s learn from football that there is always room for respect, dignity, fairness,” stated the head of state.

The Moldovan Football Federation said that the friendly match against Ukraine is part of the national team’s training program ahead of the 2024-2025 UEFA Nations League. This was the 285th match for the national team. So far, the team recorded 56 wins, 67 draws and 162 defeats.

In September, Moldova will contend in a new edition of the UEFA Nations League. The match against Malta was scheduled to take place on September 7 in Chisinau. Moldova is part of group D2, where its opponents are Malta and Andorra.
