Over €50 million euros will be invested in energy efficiency projects covering about 50 schools across the country and the improvement of the heat supply system of public buildings. This is stipulated in the loan agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development for the implementation of the project “Sustainable Transition Through Energy Efficiency in Moldova (STEEM)”. The signing of the document by Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov was approved by the Cabinet on Wednesday, IPN reports.
According to the agreement, US$35 million will be invested in energy efficiency projects at educational buildings. In total, 46 schools across the country will be renovated. Another component of the project provides for the financing of measures to improve the energy efficiency of the heat supply system of public buildings, including 11 schools. About 250 individual thermal points (PTI) will be installed in buildings and the heat supply network within the centralized system will be reconfigured. The project also includes the implementation of emergency response measures.
The project will be implemented between 2024 and 2029, with a total budget of US$54.5 million, of which US$50 million is to be provided by IBRD in the form of a loan, while the Multi-Donor Trust Fund “Moldova – Development, Resilience and Opportunities for Well-Being" (M-GROW) will offer US$4.5 million in the form of a grant for technical assistance and support for the implementation of the project.
