The Republic of Moldova has won the United Nations Public Service Award after ranking first in the Europe and North America area in the category “Fostering participation in policy-making decisions through innovative mechanisms”. This is for the first time that Moldova gets such a trophy, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the State Chancellery, the prize was awarded for the set of initiatives aimed at increasing transparency in decision-making and the civil society’s level of participation in this process. The initiatives were launched and implemented by the State Chancellery’s team in 2009-2012.
The Government’s Secretary General Victor Bodiu said that the 2013 UN Public Service Award is an achievement of the whole public administration as well as of each civil servant in part. The improvement of decisional transparency contributes to modernizing Moldova’s public administration and to strengthening an efficient and responsible state system.
The United Nations Award, which is most prestigious international recognition for contributing to public service development, was handed over in the presence of high-ranking officials and civil servants from over 80 countries. The contest was launched by the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs ten years ago. It is intended for public institutions that implemented innovative projects and identified solutions to challenges existing in the national public services.
