Ion Dediu said that of all the decorations, medals and awards he had received during his 60 year career, the National Order For Merit is the most important and dear to him. “I wasn't expecting it, but I'm glad Romania doesn't forget about us the Basarabians”, said the scientist.

Ambassador Marius Lazurca expressed his joy at hosting the decoration Ion Dediu, a renowned academician in Moldova and abroad and at the fact that Romanian President Traian Basescu gave him this task – to decorate the academician for his incontestable merits in developing the science of ecology and promoting national renaissance ideals in Moldova. “It's a joyous occasion for me and, of course, the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau”, said the diplomat.

The chairman of the Moldovan Academy of Sciences, Gheorghe Duca, said that Ion Dediu fully deserved the Romanian state's decoration.
