Three Moldovan athletes took part in the Summer Biathlon World Championships that was held in the Polish town of Duszniki Zdroj during September 23-26, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In the women's 7.5-km sprint event, Alexandra Camenshchik missed a target at the shooting range and finished 30th. In February 2010, Alexandra competed in the Vancouver Olympic Games. Another participant in this year's Winter Olympics, Victor Panzaru ranked 43rd in the 10-km race. Sveatoslav Maliutin finished 53rd in the same event. Though the three qualified for pursuit racing, none of them took part in the event.
The youngest Moldovan biathlete Natalia Levcenkov did not compete in the summer world champs owing to visa-related problems. In 2009, she won a bronze medal at the Summer Biathlon World Championships. The 33-year-old athlete is native of Russia and will probably not represent Moldova in international competitions anymore. A final decision will be taken until the start of the winter season.
