While in Israel on a visit, Prime Minister Pavel Filip took part in the opening of the Moldovan Culture Days, noting the close ties between the Moldovan people and the Jewish community that coexisted in peace and understanding in time, enriching reciprocally their culture and traditions, IPN reports, with reference to the Government’s press service.

Pavel Filip underlined the valuable contribution made by Jewish personalities of Moldovan origin to building and developing the Israeli state. Among them is Shmuel Cohen from Ungheni, who composed the state anthem of Israel. “We are proud of these personalities. At the same time, we regret that they left our country because Moldova needs talented people,” stated Pavel Filip.

The inaugural ceremony involved the national academic folk dances ensemble “Joc”, which distinguished itself as a genuine promoter of the most valuable national traditions and customs.

Attending the event, Vice President of the Knesset Tali Ploskov, who is of Moldovan origin, welcomed the delegation of the Republic of Moldova. “Moldova has special people and possibilities of developing and becoming a modern and prosperous country,” stated the official.

The large-scale cultural event is staged to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Moldovan-Israeli diplomatic relations. The Moldovan Culture Days in Israel are held during November 9-11.
