The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is holding its first session this year in Strasbourg during January 22-26. Moldova’s delegation to the session consists of MPs Marian Lupu, who heads the delegation, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Valeriu Ghiletski, Valentina Buliga, Vlad Batrincea and Inna Supac, IPN reports.
According to the Parliament’s press service, the agenda of the session includes the election of the PACE President and of the Commissioner for Human Rights, discussion of the report on the observance of human rights in 2017 and debates on the efficiency of the sports policies, protection and promotion of regional languages and languages of national minorities.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is one of the two statutory bodies of the Council of Europe. The Assembly is made up of 324 parliamentarians from the national parliaments of the Council of Europe’s member states, and generally meets four times a year for week-long plenary sessions in Strasbourg. The first session was held in August 1949. Moldova joined the Council of Europe in 1995.
