The Ground Forest Firefighting Team of the Moldovan General Inspectorate for Emergencies has completed its mission in Greece. On their return, the 40-strong team received honorary diplomas from the Ministry of the Interior.
The ceremony began with a moment of silence to remember sergeant Denis Timohin, who died in the line of duty while battling a wildfire in Florești district on August 14.
The event was attended by Minister Adrian Efros and IGSU head Col. Alexandru Oprea. The officials congratulated the team and thanked the firefighters for their efforts in the international mission successfully carried out under the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism alongside colleagues from Greece.
From July 16 to August 15, the Ground Forest Firefighting Team (GFFFv-MD) participated in a pre-positioning mission in Greece’s Nea Makri region under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
