In all the laws of the Republic of Moldova, the phrase “Moldovan language” will be replaced with “Romanian language”. There will also be substituted the phrases “official language”, “state language” and “mother tongue”. A bill to this effect was approved by the Parliament’s commission on culture, education, research, youth, sport and the media, IPN reports.
The bill was drafted by a group of MPs of the Party of Action and Solidarity. The authors also propose eliminating the text “functioning based on the Latin scrip” from Article 13 of the Constitution. Also, within 30 days of the coming into force of this law, the public authorities responsible for adopting, approving or issuing normative documents inferior to laws will make the required changes.
The bill also provides that the National Holiday “Our Language”, as the Parliament’s decision on commemorative days, bank holidays and nonworking days and the Labor Code define this, will be called the Romanian Language Day.
The note to the bill says the document is designed to meet the Constitutional Court documents providing that the Romanian language is the official language of the Republic of Moldova.
The bill is to be submitted to Parliament for consideration.
