Moldovan MFA warns against traveling to Nigeria, Haiti, Syria and Pakistan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration is advising Moldovans not to travel to a number of countries, namely Nigeria, Haiti, Syria and Pakistan, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Ministry recalls that Nigeria is mired in political turmoil, inter-ethnic and inter-religious tensions, and there have been reported cases of kidnapping of foreigners for ransom. Armed attacks against ships in this area have been also reported. The reasons for thinking twice before traveling to Haiti include high crime rates, renewed cholera outbreaks, inadequate infrastructure, in particular healthcare services, seasonal bad weather and limited police protection. The hurricane season running from May to November also adds to the risks of traveling to Haiti. In Syria, internal situation remains tense. Starting August 22, security forces will impose certain restrictions which will limit access to the country's capital Damascus. In Pakistan, risks are related to the presence of al-Qaida and insurgent troops as well as to frequent terrorist activity. Despite increased security measures, popular tourist attractions, hotels, shopping centers, restaurants and outdoor events remain potential targets.
