A delegation of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova is taking part in the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which is taking place between September 30 and October 4 in Strasbourg, the French Republic. The delegation led by MP Ion Groza, who is the head of the national delegation to PACE, includes MPs Andrian Cheptonar and Constantin Starysh, IPN reports.
The agenda of the PACE autumn session includes discussions on propaganda and freedom of information in Europe, trafficking in migrants and the situation of refugees and asylum seekers, as well as emergency medical assistance and humanitarian situation of women and children in Gaza.
Among the items on the agenda of the meeting is also the commemoration of the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor. The parliamentarians will also discuss the ensuring of safe, healthy and sustainable food for all, the implementation of the Reykjavik Declaration by the Council of Europe Development Bank, the situation in Iran and protection of Iranian human rights defenders in the Council of Europe member states.
For this session, two requests for urgent debates were submitted. One concerns the deterioration of the situation of human rights, rule of law and democracy in Azerbaijan, and the other concerns persons who went missing due to the Russian Federation’s war in Ukraine.
The Republic of Moldova has been a member of the Council of Europe since 1995.
