The leader of the sociopolitical movement “Ravnopravie” Valery Klimenko Monday announced that he will lead an international observation mission at the so-called presidential elections that will be held in the Transnistrian region of Moldova on December 11, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a news conference themed “About the international election observation mission {in Transnistria} of December 11”, Valery Klimenko said he got the consent of the Tiraspol Election Commission, which expects him to send the list of members of the observation mission to it.
“We will enquire about everything that will allow the mission to formulate a conclusion about the democratic level of these elections,” said Valery Klimenko.
Asked if his involvement in this mission means that he recognizes the elections in the breakaway republic, Valery Klimenko answered another question. He asked the reporters who Moldova holds the talks in the 5+2 format with.
Valery Klimenko stressed that he does not challenge Moldova’s sovereignty and integrity and sees no problem in going to oversee the elections in the region.
Asked why he did not get involved in the monitoring of the parliamentary elections of 2010 and the local elections of this year, when Moldovan citizens were unable to vote on the territory of Corjova village because the Transnistrian militia blocked access to the polling place there, Valery Klimenko said the situations are different. The problem in Corjova has local specific features and it is the duty of the Moldovan authorities to solve it, while the general situation in Transnistria is within the remit of the international community that monitors the events in the region, he stated.
