The murder of the Russian opposition leader Boris Nemtsov will split Russian society, considers the executive director of the Institute of Public Policy Arcadie Barbarosie. He developed the issue in the talk show “Pahomi” on Realitatea TV channel, IPN reports.
Barbarosie expressed his skepticism about the immediate prospects of Russia. “A larger catastrophe should happen to wake up the zombied Russian citizens. Regretfully, the war in Ukraine united the Russian citizens around the idea of a great Russia that Putin managed to successfully implant in society,” he stated.
According to the politologist, such cynical assassination, in the proximity of the Kremlin, was possible owing to the state of spirit that dominates Russian society. “Nemtsov’s blood is on the hands of all those who built that system where hatred and fear prevail, including of the media outlets loyal to the Russian regime,” said Barbarosie.
Barbarosie also said that the killing of the Russian opposition leader shocked everyone. “Other persons opposing the Putin regime were killed earlier too. But nobody believed it is possible to kill a person like Nemtsov this way, even in Russia. If they had wanted to simply liquidate Nemtsov, they could have done it in a hidden place, at home or on the stairs. But the fact that he was assassinated near the Kremlin has a special significance,” he stated.
